C@P Day in the Newspaper!

So I just posted pictures of the article that I found in the newspaper!
Okay, well to be completely honest I didn’t find it. I had no idea that there even was an article in the paper. But one of my friends came up to me going ‘Talia, Talia! I saw you in the Hub!’ and I was like ‘uhmm..’ and then they showed me!

I tried scanning it in, but of course the newspaper was bigger than the scanner so some of it got cut off. But you get the idea!

It’s great that it got in the newspaper, because the more people that read about it, the more people who will be aware of CAP! And it’s such a great program, I think everybody should know about it!

Orientation and C@P day!

So after you start working (yeah, it’s kind of odd, orientation isn’t on your first day of work! Normally it’s at the end of your first week.) You will start getting e-mails about orientation. Orientation is where all the C@P interns in the area all go to the Truro library for a day and they explain the job better. They’ll go over duties, forms, what is expected of you, basically everything that I’m telling you here! It’s a great way to meet the other interns though and get a better feel for what is expected of you that year. You’ll have to fill out forms and paperwork. There will be lots of paperwork that way. Make sure you bring your health card, drivers licence, and social insurance number as you will need it for some of the forms. You’ll have to fill out a bunch of tax sheets – these are confusing. I can’t help you anymore there as I messed mine up! Don’t worry about it though, just try your best to fill everything out the way you need to. They will also go over new things you will be expected to know. A big one this year was eReaders and OverDrive. They will explain about it there. They will also probably send you home with a thumbdrive of your very own and a laptop. I hardly ever used my laptop – I prefer the desktop computer here. But it’s really up to you! Some interns only use the laptop. You’ll have to use the laptop for Skype as the computers here don’t have webcams! But other than that I didn’t use it a whole lot. I brought it home to do some stuff from there once when I was really sick! So it was useful then! You’ll also start talking about C@P day. C@P day is another day where you’ll have to go into Truro. It’s basically like a party celebrating C@P! You’ll have to make up a poster promoting your C@P site and then you’ll help run it day of! This year there was all sorts of games, cake, BBQ, face painting, a Zumba class, all sorts of things! It’s lots of fun, and it’s great to get people out and learn about C@P! Make sure you book it off in your schedule that you won’t be in the library that day – so make sure you don’t book any sessions or programs! It’s lots of fun and it’s great to be able to see everyone again! It normally happens around the middle of July or so. Make sure you do lots of advertising for that as well!
